*The 9 am service for families with young children is held 9 - 9:30 am on all Sundays that Sunday School is held. About this service:
In this service the teachings, the songs and the prayers are aimed at the hearts and minds of our youngest members but we all learn something each week; that we are loved by this family of faith and most important, that God loves us as we are. Most weeks we have participants from babies in their parents’ arms through a few children in the lower grades of elementary school. This is a good place for children to begin to learn about their part in worship, where things are not quite as complex as the regular Sunday services.

MID-WEEK SERVICE:
Holy Eucharist and Healing, Wednesdays 12:10 p.m.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
Vespers, monthly from October through May, Sunday evening, 7 p.m. More about this service below

MUSIC PROGRAM

The Trinity Church Choir

As part of its expanding music program, Trinity Church boasts one of the most musically accomplished choirs in the region. Under the direction of Nicholas White, the choir provides the foundation for a singing parish. At the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist on Sunday mornings from mid-September to mid-June, the choir leads the congregation in the singing of hymns (just about every one in the Episcopal Hymnal) and psalms (plainchant, Anglican chant and Halley chant!) as well as musical settings of the Mass: the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus & Benedictus, and Agnus Dei. Soaring soprano descants frequently embellish the hymns. The choir also presents an Offertory Anthem and Communion Motet to enhance the worship experience each week. Works from every musical period are represented, from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony to the classics of the 20th century. The wildly jubilant Easter Jazz Mass has been received with great enthusiasm by parishioners and visitors alike. Additional services are presented at Trinity throughout the year such as the Evensong or Choral Vespers by Candlelight once a month, and the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols (this year, the service will be held Sunday, Dec. 31st.) Accompaniment to the choir’s singing and Prelude and Postlude are played on the magnificent 68-rank Austin organ and the beautiful Yamaha concert grand piano in the sanctuary.

The choir rehearses every Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 and every Sunday morning from 9:30 until 10:15.

Trinity's Choir

Trinity Church's Austin Organ:

Our church organ has a long and complicated history. In 1928, Trinity installed a large Moller organ with four manuals (keyboards). By 1950, it needed repairs that involved taking out some parts and changing some of the stops. In the 1960's, extensive further work was needed, and much of the old Moller organ was incorporated into a new instrument. But during the 1970's, that organ console became unreliable, and some ranks of pipes couldn't hold their tuning. Something had to be done!

In 1983, Trinity contracted with Hartford's Austin Organ company. The console was electrified and its "universal windchest" is noted for its mechanical efficiency, durability, and ability to withstand climactic changes without leaking air. The Austin Organ company repaired, regulated, revoiced, reconnected, and totally refurbished the old Moller hybrid organ, and the resulting instrument is the finest in northwestern Connecticut.

VESPERS and EVENSONG Services:

The service of Vespers dates back to the 6th century to the monastic order of St. Benedict, but its roots go back to 4th century Jerusalem. The service celebrates the lighting of the candles in the evening (Latin: vespera). In Trinity's Vespers service, the chancel is lit with several candles in the ancient tradition. The service consists of readings, hymns, and the appointed canticles and litanies for evening.

Evensong is a fuller service with a larger choir.

SCHEDULE through May 2008:

Choral Evensong, February 10, 7 PM

Easter Vespers, April 13,, 7 PM

Pentecost Vespers, May 11, 7 PM
